Dear Friends,

Over the past days, the international community has been witness to Russia’s uncovered aggression towards its neighboring country, Georgia. Under the cover of peace enforcement operations, Russia has been leading military attacks against Georgia by bombing the country’s critical infrastructures such as pipelines, ports, bridges, factories, and education centres, by looting and terrifying civilians on recently invaded Georgian territories and causing numerous casualties.

The authorities of Georgia possess comprehensive evidence, proving that different types of heavy conventional weapons, including cluster munitions, Rocket Complex 9M72 Iskander (SS-26 Stone) etc., have been indiscriminately used against civilian population and infrastructure of Georgia. The utilization of such weapons against peaceful population and civilian objects vividly reveals the inhuman brutality of Russian troops acting on the territory of Georgia.

Time Magazine: Staring Down the Russians

The end of the Cold War was supposed to usher in a new age in which the major powers would no longer dictate to their neighbors how to run their affairs. That is why Russia’s invasion of Georgia is so tragic and so potentially ominous. Russia is now on watch: Will it continue to rely on coercion to achieve its imperial aims or is it willing to work within the emerging international system that values cooperation and consensus?
